Franchise owner and Army veteran Leann Koonce brings reliable, secure broadband internet to her community

Patriot Broadband is celebrating the launch of its services in Hugo, Oklahoma. Residents, businesses, schools, and more will now have options for reliable, high-speed wireless internet.

Franchise owner Leann Koonce grew up in rural Paris, Texas. She recalls challenges from her high school and college days that stemmed from a lack of affordable, quality internet services in her rural community. Leann remembers the frustration of failing a college exam because her internet service was interrupted and she was timed out of the test.

“It is very hard because I’m also going to school right now for a degree in business administration, so I do a lot of online classes. Then there’s the kids’ school projects, and a lot of their stuff is online now as well. And you can’t watch Netflix because then you run out of data, so you’re micromanaging your data to make sure that you have enough for schoolwork,” said Koonce, who specialized in IT during her nine years in the Army.

Koonce is thrilled to start building the Patriot Broadband network in her community. She remembers all too well what it was like when she joined the military and got her first taste of high-speed internet. “The first time I got online, I was expecting it to take three minutes to load a page. And then it just automatically popped up. I was astonished, like, wow, that’s amazing. This is how it’s supposed to be!”

Now that she’s prepared to open her Patriot Broadband franchise to serve the greater Hugo area, Koonce is excited for the changes she knows are coming for everyone.

“Businesses are ready for us. They’re excited,” she said. “And we’ve seen studies on other school districts where, when they finally do get reliable internet service, their test scores go up, quality of life goes up. It’s amazing how much the internet actually improves people’s lives now. It is unfortunate that it is still seen as a luxury to some because it has truly become a much needed utility. We are here to change that.”
